This is a progressive blog/social networking site. It uses basic Drupal themes because I am not a programmer. However, it incorporates dozens of modules and I think it showcases how well Drupal functions as a combination blog and social networking site. I welcome all feedback especially thoughts that would improve the site and a special thanks to all the developers here who have contributed to the site functionality. www.diatribune.com

good job, though there are
good job, though there are still a lot of room for improvement. try tweaking the design to make it more "diatribune.com like". what module did you use for the countdown?

What do you mean
by diatribune.com like. Are you talking about tweaking the themes? I am using the countdown module. I couldn,t figure out how to get the other one to work.

yes, hes talking aboui tweaking the theme, its obvious you are using pushbutton : )
Ideally you would want to build a theme and brand your website. Much the way Drupal.org has done with this theme, and other well known sites have done with their theme. So its unmistakeable when you see it.
Open to sugestions
I am open to suggestions. Frankly I lack the skills necessary to modify the themes. What would you do? Got any thoughts?

begin with learning to manipulate bluemarine theme, in your spare time. see: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_reference.asp as a CSS reference manual to begin learning how to manipulate css and transfer those manipulations to Drupal.
take a look at the handbook with regards to the themeing section.
use the firefox browser with the firebug addon or the webdeveloper addon which shows you what css is being used and where.
Thank you
Thank you for the feedback. I will do that. Is there a particular reason you are suggesting that I start with bluemarine? Is it the easiest to work with? It seems to be the most stable. Pushbutton is very sensitive to tag errors it seems.

In theory you can use any theme as a base. bluemarine is table based and thus, is easier for newcomers to manipulate. The straight css themes require a bit more knowledge of browser specific inconsistencies which can be a pain in the rear for even seasoned vetrans.
the theme templates provided
the theme templates provided here are already good and ready to use, but to make your site even better, designing or tweaking the theme which you believe is suited to your target audience would make your site more appealing to the eye. i personally believe that there must be a balance between the content of your site and the design. a website might have a great design but if the content sucks, after browsing it for five seconds you lose interest and vice versa. so have a good mix of nice design and interesting content.
