We've been at 5.1 for a while now and I know there's a huge amount of work being done on the upcoming releases. It'll help me for sure and others I imagine, to know of expected release dates, etc.

5.2 will happen after the next security patch. That could be hours, days, weeks or even months away, or might not even happen (that's probably unlikely though).

6.0 will happen after various freezes, betas, release candidates etc - there is no chance of it sneaking up on you unless you go live in cave for a while. It is months away (although expected this year) and will be released when it is ready.

The last I heard, the code freeze was set for June 1. Code freeze dates are pretty much the only dates you get in a project like this and even that could change if circumstances warranted it, though I suspect there would have to be a pretty good reason. Once the code is frozen, it all depends on how long it takes to get the code in shape for release. If you are able to, help with the testing and patching to move things along. :) I would guess that if it freezes on June 1 that it would be out by Fall at the latest but that's only a guess and not any sort of official opinion.

Everyone has access to what will become 5.2 as well. anything that has already been comitted is available in the 5.x-dev tarball located here: http://drupal.org/drupal-5.x-dev last rolled on 4-22 at 8:07pm as of this post. Thus if there is a known fix you are waiting on, best to patch it, or to just use the dev-release and make sure to check the new tarballs regularily.
