I want to give anonymous subscribers the chance to sign up for the text-only alternate design for a newsletter section. How do I make it available to them? Or do I not understand how it works? I don't see it automatically. Do I have to create a separate newsletter with the text option as the design? I can preview the alternate design, but I don't know how to give people access to it.

Mike Wacker commentedIn 6.x-2.x (which is different from 6.x-1.x), newsletter have only one design. The alternate design is used for HTML newsletter when the email client is not capable of displaying HTML. Users do not select a design.

jonlibrary commentedThanks for the reply! That would be fine. But, how can the newsletter know when to send the alternate version? I set up a test email account with Thunderbird and set it to view the message body as plain text. But a version of the html design still gets received, not the alternate design I had specified. What am I missing?

Mike Wacker commentedI've thought of making it less visible in the UI actually before stripping the beta tag, it doesn't seem to be as important now as it was in the past.
If you tried to open an email in one of those Linux text-only email clients, you would see the alternate design. Back in the day, some mobile devices may not have supported HTML emails, but those devices are becoming more rare.
Does that answer your question?

Mike Wacker commentedNo reply, so I assume the question has been answered. I also put in some code changes to hide this in the UI, most people shouldn't worry about this feature.
