has anyone tried to adapt aberdeen to work with the color module ?
after browsing through the Integrating with Color.module handbook page it doesn't sound too difficult ... ?

Yes, that would be a plus for the theme.

However I'm not able to look at the moment. Hopefully in a couple of weeks time.

I will revisit this once the Drupal 6 release is complete and the Drupal 5 version is updated with all the most recent refinements.

This would require a decent amount of work on my end if there are multiple people who want this feature please post on this issue. Otherwise I can't commit that much time to doing this if only 1 or 2 people are interested.

Or if you are interested in adding this feature feel free to begin work and submit patches.
