2012 is upon us, and hopefully drupal.org will be upgraded to D7. When that happens, I want to make sure we have some sort of anti-spam measures in place to help us site maintainers deal with the spam we get.

So my question is: What is needed to get spam.module ported to D7? Do you need a new branch maintainer? A bounty? Just more coders to port it?

Note: I'm not sure of any timeline to upgrade d.o, nor has this been endorsed by anyone "higher up" - yet. But I believe that it's very important to have not just for d.o, but for the community as well.

Hi silverwing,

If you think you can do it, that's fine with me. 8-)

However, I'm afraid I don't have any control over the users who can participate in this module. The people I talked with to myself maintain D6 were not very hot (At the time) to move on to D7 yet. One suggestion would be for you to create your own Spam module and create a new project. My personal take...

I don't work with D7 myself.

Thank you.
Alexis

I am likely going to need a D7 version of the Spam module in early 2012, so I expect to start a port mid to late January. This is not a guarantee it will happen, but I'm hopeful... Of course, patches, donations, and general encouragement are always welcome... ;)

@Jeremy, did you end up doing any work on porting spam.module to Drupal 7? If not, do you have some time to team up on it? I'm working on getting spam ready for deployment on Drupal.org, but we also need to make sure that there's a solid upgrade path.

Unfortunately I have not had any time for this; I'm very low on time this week, but perhaps ping me via email and we can figure something out... I'd love to see it used on Drupal.org.

Marking as a duplicate of #1063524: Port spam module to Drupal 7. To get this deployed, we need a D7 port, so this issue is unnecessary. Jeremy, I'll get in touch with you when I'm working on this.
