Hi all,
First let me say what a GREAT job everyone has done with Drupal. I've just created a website for my small business and enabled the "Who's Online" block a couple days ago. I've given one other person an account to log into the site. For the last two days the block has said "There are currently 1 user and 6 guests online." I'm wanting to know if that is accurate. Although I'd like to think that there are people looking at my website, I can't really believe that 6 anonymous people have been on the site for two days.
I've looked through the logs and can see when I log in but can't see where anyone else is requesting pages. Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Tim

happened to me...
This has happened to me as well. I found out that i actually just had other instances of my site pulled up in another browser window at work while i was at home.
not sure if this is the case with you, but it seems like you have multiple sessions being created.
Who's online is configurable
You are correct. The who's online is not a super accurate count of your traffic, but rather to give you an idea of how many people have visited. When you click the "Configure" button next to "Who's Online" in the Blocks section, you can choose how long after someone leaves your page that they are still counted as online. Set it for 30 seconds, and you will have a decent representation of who is online, set it for 24 hours and it will look like you have monster traffic.
You are correct...Drupal is an unbelievable web development tool.

Bots?
Does Who's Online distinguish robots from other users? Within reason, of course; obviously agents can be spoofed. But we've usually got something like 200 guests floating around on any given day, and awstats seems to corroborate that many of these are likely to be bots.
Nope
Bots, people, random misfires... Any page view shows up. I've had 50+ guests show up in the block sometimes and I know there's no way there's that many people looking at it. :)

I think I've isolated the problem module
I noticed that this only started happening after I installed the CiviCRM module. After I submitted this post I went in and disabled the module. Then I noticed that the online user count went from 6 to 4 to 1 to 0. It stayed at 0 for an hour or so. I re-enabled CiviCRM and the count is back to 6.
Any ideas?

Same problem still occuring - Who's online overstated Civicrm
I realise this is a very old thread but has anyone seen a resolution to this. I am running 6.14 and when I add with Civicrm 2.2 the guest users count on the who's online block suddenly starts jumping up to silly numbers It is currently showing 1 user and 98 guests. Without Civicrm the numbers normally sit well below 10.
Thanks and regards
Steven
