Happy New Year All- May all your issues be simple!

The difference in the process of defining and editing a Page Panel and a minim panel is a bit confusing for new users.
Page Panels:

  • In the Admin form, checkboxes at the bottom allow the user to determine which forms to use to define the initial form.
  • Each form includes a "continue" leading to the next form
  • The list of forms are displayed like breadcrumbs above with the current page in bold. These breadcrumbs are not links.
  • At the conclusion of the initial forms the main panel control form is presented with vertical form selection tabs and horizontal action tabs

Mini Panels:

  • Checkboxes are not included in the initial admin page for the definition
  • A "continue" button is missing
  • The form breadcrumbs are links.
  • The main panel control form is more like a standard form and differs from the Page Panels main control form

I believe the differences between the UI is confusing for end users. Since I began working with page panels, I expected the mini-panels form series to work the same way. Without the continue button it took a half hour to realize that the form breadcrumbs were links. You can assume this is an ID- 10-T error (idiot), but having never used mini-panels before I was at not at all certain how to assign the content to the mini-panel and was (increasingly frustrated) searching for how to add content including other locations such as in blocks or views.

My Suggestions:

  • The Main control form for page panels is an excellent interface (it is clearer to me than the Views UI and that one is also pretty good). I would recommend that this form layout be used throughout Panels UI.
  • Since the interaction between modules is so good, for what its worth, I also think that the same UI format should be used for Page Manager, Panels and Views in a future version
  • The Checkbox options on the admin form seem superfluous. A page panel can be created with just a name and everything else is readily accessible from the main control form. Since the contents of the forms are the same either way, why not just rely on one way? (To a novice, the checkboxes are confusing.)
  • If both input options are retained, the same layout and features should appear in both page & mini panels. The checkboxes on the admin form, the "Continue" button, and form breadcrubs should be present on both. The breadcrumbs should be links on both
  • Mini Panels control form should use the same layout as Panel Pages.

I hope this is helpful
