Viewselect with arguments gives error - An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator.

I have been trying to use view select with an argument and it keeps giving the following error:
“An illegal choice has been detected. Please contact the site administrator”.

I have tried it without passing an argument and the viewselect works fine. Using an argument of the nid also works, but an argument of any other type causes the illegal choice error.

The viewselect that we are using accepts the argument of type taxonomy id or taxonomy term name. It displays the correct values in the checkboxes (the filtered form display works,) but when the user makes a choice and submits the form, the value is not captured, and the error above is displayed.

When no argument is required, the viewselect and the form function as expected.
