I've asked multiple times in #drupal-support but no one ever replies (and yes I sit ion freenode all day).

I assume you're referring to the "Display post information on" box with the text "Enable or disable the submitted by Username on date text when displaying posts of the following type."

I already have all four boxes checked (Forum topic, Page, Poll, Story). No dice. I assume that checking the box means to enabled it.

Looks like this is a known bug. Workaround is at http://drupal.org/node/112584
