exposed filter in user reference field

Hello, I searched a lot. I have a user reference field in my content type, with about 500 users and several roles.
Is there any way to put an exposed filter on roles in user reference field? I use View to select the users(Advanced option) and setup an exposed filter on role but only view's fields are displayed when edit content not exposed dropdown list.
Can any one guide me please?
