Steps followed to try installing & experimenting with the example files.

1) Installed Drupal Version: Drupal 6.x
2) Installed JQueryUI : 6.x-1.4
3) jquery version : 1.7.3

downloaded from : http://drupal.org/project/jquery_ui

4) Placed Modal frame API files with same directory structure in modules folder
5) Enabled Modal frame API module successfully

When trying the example links, the page opens in the same window. Noticed error in jquery on console.
Please refer attached image for error report.

Kindly enable the jquery udpate module.

This will resolve the issue.

Sounds like the original poster solved their own problem: the jquery_update module was required. This is now an explicit dependency in the modalframe.info file in 6.x-1.x.
