Create Latest Post Blocks by Category?

Is there a way to create a block of latest posts by category. For instance, I'd like to have a
A Block on the right hand side that would list the last 5 - 10 headlines from my movies channel
with a little Syndication button underneath. And maybe a block that would list the last 5 - 10
interviews, etc... Is there an easy way to do with without manually doing it?

if you don't want to write your db querry manually, investigate the views.module which builds querries.
