Maybe it is a good idea to make it compatible with cck, on each display setting of a field you can choose "infield" label it would be great to have that.

You should be able to enter desired node form ID into in field labels admin page to trigger the effect on the form you choose.

Putting the functionality directly in the CCK (of field in d7) configuration would be much more user friendly and also allow to define in-field setting only for a subset of the fields of the form....
