I'm not sure why but I tried creating a view with the messages and when I'm viewing it in the view preview they look fine but when I put the block onto the page the parts of the messages that are wrapped in < em > get filtered out. I've poked around trying to discover where but nothing jumped out at me. Any hints or suggestions on where to look?

hmmm, here it works as it should. very difficult for me to give you a hint. maybe an additional module filter it out.
