No, I don't have a solution. But am wondering if any one else has a need or is working on something similar.

I'm thinking that this might be a good stop-gap between the existing book outlining done by node weights in checkboxes and a 6.X drag-n-drop sortable node list via JS / Ajax.

Suggestions would be appreciated. In the meantime, I going to study the excellent views module to determine if I have enough coding skill to enhance my own version of book module.

i agree, that'd be a nice UI improvement to book.module, but no, i don't have any code to accomplish this yet. furthermore, my plate is so over-full, there's no way i'd be able to work on this anytime soon. sorry. however, please reply here if you get this working, i'd be interested in taking a look. ;) good luck!
