'Search multiple items at once' does not work in node edit form

Im using modal 'search and reference view'. It works alright upon the creation of the node but when editing 'search and reference multiple items at once' does not work. After the modal window closes the fields are not populated at all and the search and reference icons are gone. Even the single selector only works for the first two fields and when I click 'add another item' the page reloads thus wiping out the first two fields.
