SEO Position Drupal 5.1 Redesign

trueMarketing - May 1, 2007 - 20:22

Hello,
We contributed our SEO Position 4.7 theme to Drupal last year and have just updated the SEO Position website with a new look for Drupal 5.1: http://www.seoposition.com

The goal was to keep it simple, clean, and all around clutter-free. We've added more white space and kept the modules to a minimum, only using about 8 to 12 that we couldn't really live without such as pathauto, xml sitemaps, the page title module, and several others.

So, how did we do? And, would anyone like to see this version of our theme contributed to Drupal?

Best!
Brian

yes please

Summit - May 1, 2007 - 20:26

Hi,

I tried to use your module in drupal 4.7.
It looked very nice, but with a module like panels the look-and-feel was corrupted.
Please contribute your theme and hopefully the look-and-feel will stay as it looks (great!) on all the modules.

greetings,
Martijn

Thanks for the feedback...

trueMarketing - May 1, 2007 - 20:48

Hi Martijn,
Thanks for the input. We actually have two themes - the original SEO Position 4.7 theme now updated for 5.1 and the current SEOposition.com theme that you see on our live website. I will have the original SEO Position theme contributed last year (http://drupal.org/project/SEOposition) submitted this week for 5.1. It's a wider, much cleaner version of our 4.7 theme for Drupal 5.1. You should see it no later than Thursday added to the Drupal themes section.

The theme we're using on the live version of the SEOposition.com site may need some basic documentation before we can submit it because we are using Views on the bottom of the site (for Recent Entries, Most Discussed Articles, etc.). Therefore, we need to explain to users of the theme how to set up the Drupal site they are installing with Views to get the bottom working. Everything else is pretty much basic Drupal install stuff.

If more people request our new theme (on our live site), I'll have that submitted in the next week or so. I just want to assess the demand and if people dig it or not. So everyone that sees this, please let us know!

Thanks
Brian

Love the new theme on the site. Already submitted by request to release this to the community.

thomasmuirhead - November 4, 2007 - 17:46

Hi there, you say above that to 'get the bottom working' you have to use Views. I've enabled the views module but i still can't work out how to do the bottom...any help would be great.

thanks

Great theme

raizan - December 18, 2007 - 04:46

New theme looks great, please include it.

Anyway, would like to take this opportunity to clarify...

For the original SEO Position theme, the right sidebar is squashed down beneath the left sidebar when viewed on Internet Explorer 6. Is this a known problem and has been discussed somewhere?

Else it looks great on Firefox. Since my users are also from the IE community, I have no choice but to ensure it looks equally great on Internet Explorer.

Appreciate any help.

Great Theme !

madjr - May 1, 2007 - 22:21

looks a lot better than the last one and works well even in 800x600 res.

just one note: it's hard to distinguish between the comments in the "recent comments block" (well, really all links in the panel with the black background), i suggest you make the links become underlined and probably even change color when hovering the mouse.

Other than that, Great work, we look forward for next years theme too :)

good comments

trueMarketing - May 1, 2007 - 23:48

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the dark middle column with the comments are a bit dark. We'll work on a more intuitive, eye-pleasing workaround for that area in the next day or so.

Thanks again!

trueMarketing - May 2, 2007 - 13:43

Thanks enky4u for the vote! Hopefully we'll get some more people liking the theme so we can justify the needed time to build the documentation and also support the theme on an ongoing basis.

johntymatts - May 2, 2007 - 17:13

I wouldn't panic over documentation a very quick this view was set like this, this view was set like this,
then make sure you mention the lack of documentation it can always be added later when people start to moan.

Great job by the way it looks good
;)

Yeah, you may be right

trueMarketing - May 2, 2007 - 17:47

Hi Johntymatts.
You're probably right on the documentation comment, but contributing the initial SEO Position 4.7 theme raised enough questions to make me think that some initial documentation might be good so as to not get the personal emails asking for advice on setting this new theme up - especially the custom Views at the bottom of the site.

Come on people, some more votes please ;-)

johntymatts - May 3, 2007 - 21:21

Well if that's all that's stopping the release, I will happily write the documentation for it ;)
You can proof read it and of you go.

I love this theme

Julia_Kristiva - May 3, 2007 - 00:04

I like the theme because it's so unlike most other SEO companies and has a modern, clean feel to it. Refreshing! I think the Drupal community would benefit from such a nice theme.

thanks!

trueMarketing - May 3, 2007 - 15:34

Thanks Julia!
We think clean is beautiful! Cluttered sites often confuse the message or mission of the site. Thanks for your support and comments.

love it

safin - May 3, 2007 - 18:33

I just love this theme..
I liked it in 4.7 and the newer one looks so much better.
Waiting for the release :)

we appreciate it!

trueMarketing - May 3, 2007 - 22:37

Thank you Safin. 4.7 was a good beginning, but I really dig the new look and it's exciting to be able to receive such nice comments and interest on our new design. We appreciate it and I think we'll be ready to make a release of this theme very soon - perhaps next week if all goes well with client projects and workload.

If anyone spots any bugs or something else that we could fix beforehand, please let us know. We've tested it in Firefox, Safari, IE6 & IE7. The only problem I know we need to work on is the node title avatar CSS because we had to drop in a workaround "clear: both;" in the CSS for a bunch of admin pages in order for the text to stay aligned properly while logged in as admin.

I'd also like to come up with a video tutorial for Drupal users wanting the theme or a check list so we're not having to go round and round with support if we can help it.

Best!
Brian

Did you get enough support to release the theme?

Julia_Kristiva - May 9, 2007 - 20:53

Hi,
How are the "votes" going to submit the new SEO Position theme to Drupal? I hope you're still considering it.

blocks at bottom

trueMarketing - July 17, 2007 - 19:21

Hi Taherk,
To achieve the bottom links we simply use the Views module. Three custom Views were set up here and each pulls in data or creates a custom block at the bottom. We are very close to releasing this theme to Drupal users, and we'll include this and a brief how-to tutorial on how to do it with the themem whic will called Alek 2.0 ;-)

Excellent theme!

parajeff - July 18, 2007 - 18:23

The old SEO Position theme was good, the updated 5.1 version better...and this is the best yet.

Looking forward to seeing the release (and thanks very much for releasing it to the community). You do great work.

Question on license

Muskwa - July 19, 2007 - 08:31

Hi,
I installed SEO Position for Drupal 5.1 and I am working on my website, but I wonder if it is allowed to delete the copyright notice at the bottom of the page (Designed by SEO Position and Blamcast) - I can write this copyright notice anywhere else, but I would prefer to have my own copyright (for the website) at that place. I tried to find it in the LICENSE.TXT but I can't understand it fully. Also - is it allowed to change the header?

Thank you very much for your help.

bottom blocks

thomasmuirhead - November 4, 2007 - 00:36

hi there,

the bottom three blocks don't seem to be showing as they should? On the blocks admin page you can just choose footer and then they sit on top of each other. Is there something simple I am missing?

The same problem

maanst - December 18, 2007 - 11:31

Have the same problem. It must be some simple detail - as always.

Float?

Hi,

I think you can arrange this with Float left in your style.css

float:left.
