Wikipedia, Wordpress and thousands of sites blacked out today.
Many websites are blacked out today to protest proposed U.S. legislation that threatens internet freedom: the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA). From personal blogs to Wikipedia, sites all over the web — including this one — are asking you to help stop this dangerous legislation from being passed. Please watch the video below to learn how this legislation will affect internet freedom, then scroll down to take action.

+1 for D.O Blackout SOPA
It would be great if d.o would show some support for #blackoutSOPA.
Drupal = Free Internet
Drupal + SOPA != Free Internet
There's a time for everything.
What's up, guys????
I'd have thought we'd be the first to do something like this. There isn't even a decent discussion of the issues. I'm really surprised. What seems to be the problem?
equally shocked
idk - perhaps theres more on the Drupal Association site or in Washington DUG? But Bay Area forums are SILENT! Bad count against a 'community' project, if true :-(
.
There are hundreds of thousands of people in this community, many of whom make their living off of Drupal, living all over the world. To turn off this important resource for them, especially on a workday, to protest US legislation would be irresponsible.

seriously
if that's the reason, then it sure is disappointing. Drupal is a community of freedom, more than anything else. To keep silent on an issue of this importance to the essential freedom of the web is something that is beyond baffling to me. As neha27 indicated, there are many ways of expressing your feelings.
Clarification
Exactly to protect these people now and in the long run, there has been protests. Not protesting means those thousands are or will be at risk. Those who have seen Wordpress and many sites yesterday have seen Wordpress and those sites blacked out the front page with a prominent link to continue normally to the normal first page and all other contents so that no one or their living got hampered.
Those who did not do an explicit black out did or are still displaying a prominent link in the first page.
Not protesting means those
Oh puh-leeze. Drupal.org not shutting down for a day doesn't put anyone at risk.
Changing the design would be harder than putting the site in maint mode. See http://drupal.org/node/1409306
Also, it's not like the community doesn't care at all: http://drupal.org/node/1386548

I think a lot of people
I think a lot of people wanted to do this, but no one got around to filing an issue about it until the day of, at which point it was too late.
