When you hit "reply" (and "quote" if using the quote module") the comment edit screen only shows the actual comment you're replying to. It'd be great if instead it showed a view of the full node and comments, centered on the comment itself but browsable - not dissimilar to the way replying to an issue works.
There are two reasons I'd prefer this:
1. using a flat forum structure, users will click "reply", any time they want to post, not necessarily on the comment they're responding to - I know this link can be removed, and comment reply put down the bottom, but that would also be non-standard compared to other forum software.
2. Often in discussions you might want to respond to 2 or more comments in the one post, this makes it very difficult to do so - requiring either trusting the back button and/or browsing a second instance of the thread in another tab or window.

geologyrocks commentedA quick and dirty patch that I did on my site. Shows a div below the comment reply form what contains the node and comments. The node only shows up when replying to a forum topic (easily changed). This needs a lot of work, i.e. user interface in the admin to set up if you want a review and how to set the reviews up, etc, but this might be start

catchIssue followups as comments now does this! So pulling it out of project* and into comment module (or forum module) ought to be possible.

smustgrave commentedThank you for sharing your idea for improving Drupal.
We are working to decide if this proposal meets the Criteria for evaluating proposed changes. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or there is no community support. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.
Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
Thanks!
