file download in e-commerce module doesn't ever provide file

I've installed the e-commerce module 4.5 in drupal 4.5 (not 4.5.1) and file download is not aparently working. I host a website for artists and musicians, and mp3 downloads are crucial. I've offered each track at a low price, ala iTunes, and they are supposed to be a simple, paid, direct download; but it's non-functional. I tried it out a purchase using my girlfriends paypal account and found that nowhere during the process was there a link to the file that was purchased. I guess the only option would be if the payment took a couple days to go through, and until then it was unable to be downloaded. Obviously I would prefer as few steps and as little time as possible when a customer purchases a track, so what is the solution here? I haven't found any forum topics or bugs regarding file downloads in ecommerce and i'm curious as to whether i jumped the gun here.
