Hello,
We are getting a lot of reports for this one in Free Software Magazine...
Basically, people are getting a notofy email because a comment is added. However, we only published approved comments. As a result, people get an email, but when they click on the thread, they don't see any new comments! (They are still being approved).
I think the only way to fix this is for us to configure the module to send emails out during the CRON job. HOWEVER, the module needs to figure out that it should only send emails out for approved comments...
Any ideas?
The problem is particularly bad for us because we get a lot of spam - and the spam triggers the subscription emails...
Merc.

patchak commentedSame problem here with the 4.7 version.... The mails are sent even though they are in moderation...
That created a lot of unwanted mail from users.

dmguard commentedIt seems to be also sending emails out when comments are posted which are automatically deleted by a spam filter. That seems a bit silly. Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

pir commentedYes we're having the same problem - I've had to disable comments temporarily because people were being inundated with comment spam-generated subscription notifications, then went to look for changes and didn't see anything new.
Acording to this post installing the catcha module solves the problem, but I'd rather not make people jump through more hoops if I can help it http://drupal.org/node/129246

patchak commentedI agree. I just think that this is a bug from this module, since it should send notifications only when the comments are actually published, IMO.

dkruglyak commentedYes, this is a bug and a separate issue has been created with a possible solution posted: http://drupal.org/node/143765
