filter available content for mini panels [#1417934]

I know there are already a lot of issues here and i'm discovering panels, actually, so i hope not to be disturbing..
I'm thinking about using panels to let admins build the home pages of a portal made using domain access.

That's ok, there is a plugin called comain_ctools and that way i can filter the domain where the page is supposed to be shown.
The idea is to let admins choose what to show inside that pages, between some options not every "entity" in the website.
For example, they would build a panel inside the "page" choosing the nodes of a specific content type, or basing on some views reults, with the right build mode and place that inside the panel.

choosing nodes is something panels perfectly does, even though i should do something, maybe some form_alter in order to have the right build mode selected and to hide that select inside every panel, maybe that's doable but i don't know what about filtering content types or other subsets, expecially for the single panel.

So, the main problem would be limit the options available to the admins in order to let them choose only what is supposed to be placed inside a panel.

It seems this is not possible, unfortunately.

You have only one configuration for an entire panel page, right? I cannot set what could be placed or not inside a specific panel in a panel page.

I was trying to use mini panels to do that, but it seems they work only with contexts, not selection rules so i cannot filter what user might place in them.

Moreover, i would like them to fill the content of a mini panel inside the panel page view, not in the mini panel one and that seems not achievable too...

Am i right or am i missing something?

I'm having a little trouble understanding exactly what it is you want to control.

Do you want to control what content is available when the user clicks "Add content" (i.e, the gear over a region) and tries to add content?

There are ways to restrict this, but they tend to be pretty broad. It's very hard to do this for a particular panel without getting into code and writing your own panel applications.

You cannot control the content of a mini panel from the panel containing it.

I know it was a little bit obscure, i was writing and thinking at the same time.
Anyway, you got it, i was looking for a way to limit the options available about adding content to a single panel , let's call it "region" in a panel page, first.
Then i was investigating if this was doable using mini panels, using them to build the panel page.
At last i was also looking for a way to control the mini panels content inside the panel page.
It seems i cannot do any of this...

Hi merlinofchaos, I have the same problem. You mentioned that it is possible, according to your own words, to control what content is available when the user clicks "Add content" (i.e, the gear over a region) and tries to add content. Can you please give me a hint how to do this? If can be done with coding, do I have to use some hooks? Please help..
