Since Drupal 6.23 was a security update, can we expect a Commons 2.5 with this and other bug fixes from 2.4 in the near term? Seems like I always try to upgrade the day before a new release.

We plan to release a Commons 2.5 early next week.

In general, we leave the 6.x-2.x branch "ready to release' and we can turn around a security release with a new core SA relatively quickly. In this case, we're going to get in the homepage enhancements and likely the group landing page enhancements.

What about Commons 1.7? Will there be a new 1.7 for drupal 6.24 or, can you provide instructions on how to upgrade drupal core on 1.7?

Commons 1.7 is no longer officially supported. However, you can upgrade Drupal core per the standard upgrade instructions.

So, just to confirm... Assuming one takes proper precautions with backups, doing a Drupal core update to 6.24 isn't expected to cause trouble for the current Common's 6.x-2.4 release?
