viewfield always uses the view's "page" settings, even if the view is configured to only publish a block. This can be misleading if the block is configured (show pager, number of nodes, etc) and the page options are left with their default values.

Good point. Perhaps we can rename the "default" display handler to be "Page" and also create a "Block" display handler. This would allow you to pick on the CCK display settings page.

I'll put that idea in the hopper.
