The "Novelty" category was created to collect joke modules. #946928: Create a 'Novelty' module category

Unfortunately, I don't think many people know that this is what the category is used for. (I didn't until a few days ago.) This may lead to some confusion and frustration. (See #1427148: [Meta] How should joke modules be handled?.)

I suggest changing the category name to "Joke modules" – making it clear both for those who write joke modules and those who want to avoid them where to (not) look.

Title: Change "Novelty" category to "Joke modules" » Rename "Novelty" category to "Joke modules"

(more clear title)

Very good idea, thank you Itangalo.

I don't think it's necessary to try to split off 'joke' modules from 'novelty' ones. Pirate, Konami code, Chistmas snow Are novelty, but not jokes (nor games).
"Bad Judgement" - though it's tongue in cheek - does actually serve a genuine practical purpose. It's novelty, but not a joke.
Even Frypan and Fail have/had a purpose. A number of the rest are just "let's see if it's possible to do this with Drupal, even though it's a silly idea" - but they do relate to Drupal and experimentation with the tool.

As for deliberately feeble "joke" modules like "Arrow" and "America". Giving them their own category would just endorse and encourage them - so I'd really rather not.

#3: If I interpret #946928: Create a 'Novelty' module category correctly, the Novelty category was made explicitly for joke modules – while working, fun but not very useful modules use the "Games and amusements" category.

See this comment for what I think is exactly this case: http://drupal.org/node/946928#comment-3605310

The problem right now is that (1) people sometimes add serious modules to the Novelty category and (2) people sometimes take modules in the Novelty category seriously.

I disagree for the same reasons as the examples I've already listed.
None of them are playable "Games" any more than they are funny "Jokes".

They are just not-to-be-taken-seriously and the "novelty" category (should have been) a safe haven from criticism that something is impractical or silly.
The current label best fits the ones I've listed, and should stay for them.

If you want a new category for things that are attempting to actually be "funny", then suggest that (-1 from me), but the current category is correct for a few of the current members.

I would classify Pirate, Konami Code and Christmas snow as "amusement", but I don't see this as a big issue.

Let's return to this when the need becomes apparent. :-)
