Not sure if Mime Mail is right for this

I'm basically trying to implement Mime Mail into a module to add MIME support to the otherwise text/plain e-mails in that module.

However, it seems that I'm either not finding the right documentation or Mime Mail does not have a simple "take this message body with its attachments and prepare it for sending" function.

• Can Mime Mail do this?
  • If so: how?
  • If not: should I still use Mime Mail?
• Is there a way to get just that functionality without requiring System Mail?

I'm not finding any useful code examples at all.
