It would be nice for this module to have a feature to subscribe to feed aggregator categories and feeds.

Please help me to understand what you mean. What would that look like and what would it do?

We need to get 1.0 out before adding new features, but I'm open to make plans for the future.

I'm thinking it would be similar to taxonomy subscriptions but with aggregated data instead.

I'm developing a site where I will ask users for aggregate URL to feed to the site and then receive email when data from the site is received. I would like to not have to move data from aggregate data to node data which is how I've done this before. In my development I've created a "Drupal Core Development" category and have added aggregate URL from the issues feed and the groups.drupal.com/core feed. I would like to subscribe to the category to receive email when new data arrives with the email formatted similar to the aggregator/categories/1 view.

I can understand your wanting to wait on new feature enhancements and I'm willing to wait but it just seems glaringly missing. Depending on your timeline versus mine, who knows, I may just submit a patch file.

That sounds like functionality for an add-on module modeled after subscriptions_taxonomy.module and subscriptions_content.module.

In principle, subscriptions is designed to be node-agnostic. You may encounter some bumps along the way though, especially with template preview, but I'm very interested to iron these out.
