On the Transport settings page, it would be nice to have a "Test Email" area where you could specify a "to" email address and click a button that sends one email to that address. That way if there is an error sending the email, you can display a friendly message on the screen. This will help tremendously in validating if you are using correct SMTP settings.

The best option would be to have a way in testing the SMTP and other settings without sending an email. But I am not sure if that is possible.

Hi,

This functionality does indeed exist. When configuring the module, please click on the Test tab. This will allow you to enter an e-mail address which a test e-mail should be sent to.
