Hello guys,

As stated in the subject, I am going to build a portal and the idea had been to use Drupal.
I've used to do a couple of sites, but never to create a portal itself.
I thought it should have more or less in it:

  1. A news section
  2. An events section
  3. An e-commerce
  4. One for user registration
  5. a slideshow

Can you believe it's all doable in Drupal? Let me explain, for each section, the modules are already exist?
I would not go crazy to write code or change the CMS itself (I've done that, and I went crazy, despite some knowledge of php :)).
Which version would you recommend me to do? The 7.12?

the devil is in the details, but based on the very high level functionality you listed, you should be able to do this with little, if any, custom code (again, depending on the details). And definitely start with d7 if at all possible.

Everything you listed there can be easily done with Drupal and a few modules.
