... if when it automatically creates a new term in a vocabulary, it could also apply that term to the node that prompted it.

Thanks.

What is the use case?

The new node gets tagged with the new taxonomy term that was just created.

Use case:

I have nodes called "regions". They create terms in a vocabulary called "regions". I control blocks depending on what content is tagged by region - let's say 'africa'. When looking at nodes tagged with 'africa' - I show a newsletter subscription block. I would like this subscription block to also appear when the NAT node called 'africa' is viewed. To do this - the node needs to be tagged with 'africa'. It does not make sense to create the region node. Then edit this node to tag it with the term it just created. It should happen automatically.

Does this help?

Sorry, I should have responded earler, but I actually forgot I'd posted this -- though I would really like th functionality...

Basically, the above commenter has it just right. When I create the node that is going to create the term, I have to then select the term and save it again if I want it to be in the category it just created. That doesn't work for me cause it's too complicated to expect the users of my site to do it reliably. So I would like it if, when the node creates a term, the node itself is tagged with the new term.
