Currently "number of comments" or "comment now" is not included in the feed that is provided. I use feedburner for my feed and would like to add a feedflare that lists number of comments and/or comment now depending on whether a comment has been made.

has anyone created such a thing? if not, any ideas how to create this?

If you have the Comment RSS module enabled, you can use the 'Comments Count (Self-hosted Wordpress)' FeedFlare. Or if you're using the FeedBurner module, you can enter a Custom FeedFlare URL of 'http://mydrupalsite/feedburner/feedflare/comments'
