In d7 views has an api function to load the actual value of a field. Especially with fieldapi fields things might be complicated.

Here is a small patch which changes the behavior so it works, at least for me as expected.
To use this you just have to add the file field, that's it, not even select the formatter.

This looks to be broken at least using a basic audio view.
