Keeping track of downloads

I use this module widely for all downloadable files because I find it gets rid of the annoying browser-dependencies.

However, I've recently been trying to use in combination with the download count module so that I (and more importantly, my clients) can keep track of how many times particular files have been downloaded and I hit a dead end.

Is there a simple way for me to be able to use this module and also keep a count of downloads?

Any advice very gratefully received.
