Hello,
I need to hire someone to reduce the MySQL usage on my account. My host (HostMonster) emailed me the below a few days ago. If you'd like the job, please email me with your rate and several references. For someone with the right knowledge, I don't think this should be difficult or take long at all.
The website is pluginamp.com.
best,
Terri

It has come to our attention that your site is using an excessive amount of MySQL resources on your HostMonster.com account. This is causing performance problems on your website as well as for other customers that are on this server. It can cause our servers to crash and cause additional downtime.
Our research shows that server performance degrades when the MySQL usage is over 1000 tables and/or 3 GB on a single account or 1000 tables and/or 2 GB on a single database. In order to ensure optimal performance for your account and the others in your shared hosting environment, we request that you reduce the MySQL usage on your account to under these limits by 02/23/2012.
Your account information:
Total MySQL Database Size: 2666.36 MB
Total MySQL Tables: 1200
Largest MySQL Database Size: 1374.60 MB
Largest MySQL Table Count: 205
We do understand that these databases may be old or unused. There are programs/scripts that will create these automatically. You'll need to reduce the number of tables. This could be done by uninstalling unused plugins for your sites, removing unused scripts (such as Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, etc) or deleting databases.

Check Logs
Hi one way to reduce the size of the db at a swift glance is to truncate the watchdog table(s) and perhaps the cache_* tables.
cache can be emptied in the admin look under admin > site configuration > performance at the bottom of that screen is a button to clear the cache
The watchdog tables can be emptied from something like phpMyAdmin if you have it.
That's a quick way to reduce the size of the database(s) whilst you're awaiting responses to take a logo at what's need to reduce the number of tables.
Also looking at your site, you don't seem to have friendly urls enabled that allow you to have nicer seo'd urls so instead of http://pluginamp.com/network/node/14728 you would have http://pluginamp.com/network/tripartito-and-christmas-holidays
If you enable the path and pathauto modules, this will help you to achieve this. Pathauto enables you to set up automatic url aliases for your various content types
good luck & regards
Table count first... Are you
Table count first... Are you running multiple sites on this account? 1200 tables is excessive for one Drupal site. 205 tables for one install is more typical, which implies you have multiple sites. If it's multiple sites, and all are in use, I doubt you can reduce your overall table count by much.
As for database size, 1374.60 MB does seem large for a single Drupal site. Check your watchdog, accesslog, and session tables to see if they're bloated out of control. If so, those are easy to fix. Any other big ones?
If you have large node, node_revisions, or content_field* tables, then it's your content taking up space. You may not be able to reduce that.
If you don't have many nodes, but your node_revisions or content_field* tables are huge, you may be automatically saving new revisions for every edit, which creates a lot of data. You could turn that off or remove old revisions.
Databases make your site work, so if you have a busy site and use a lot of Drupal's features, you may need a large database. :)

tables, etc.
Hi,
and thanks a lot to both of you! I really do appreciate your advice, but I don't have the time to learn to apply it. I haven't worked on my own site in a long time, and I'm not expert enough at Drupal to know how to apply this without fear of destroying something crucial on my site.
I am only running one site, and I'm sure there's stuff that needs to be cleaned out. However, due to other pressing work, I don't have time to figure it out myself. I need to hire someone.
It should be a pretty easy job for one with the know-how (not me, unfortunately).
Can anyone help?

My recommendation
Just move away from HostMonster. Shared hosting is no place for a Drupal site, and you can get a VPS for relatively little cost (see AlienVPS.com - I host with them and I'm very pleased with their performance). Check out their Valentine's day specials: http://alienvps.com/vps-hosting-specials/
You can get a VPS with 1GB of dedicated RAM for only $8/mo.
If you'd like, I can configure the VPS for you and move your site over - it should only take an hour or two. Because it's a VPS, maintenance is usually a concern, and I'd be glad to assist with long term maintenance as well.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated in any way with AlienVPS, other than being a happy customer of their's.
I agree. This is not
I agree. This is not something to be fixed, so much as having outgrown HostGator's available resources. 'Fixing' it is only going to be a temporary solution.
Contact me to contract me for D7 -> D10/11 migrations.
