I've heard a lot about WordPress. I find their online support horrible. I learned about this software from searching for a book on how to use WordPress, Building Online Communities With Drupal, phpBB, and WordPress. It appears to me that Drupal has a lot more to offer than WordPress.

Why should i choose Drupal over WordPress? Is Drupal user-friendly? It is said that WP is user-friendly but i've not found it to be so. Basically because there are no real instructions.

Thanks for your help.

What sort of instructions were you looking for?

I've found plenty of information in the support forums at wordpress.org, an equal amount that the drupal.org forums have. What either can offer you depends on your requirements, which you've not stated.

Yes, Drupal is user friendly.
1)Installation is super easy.
2)You have plenty of modules not found elsewhere - you can add those easily depending on what type of site you want.
3) It is super flexible - you can easily add your custom content types with CCK module

If you have webhost ( or localhost with apache, mysql, php ) you can start right away :
You can read the handbooks if you like for example:

Drupal provides more power and flexibility than WordPress (which by design focuses on blogging), but Drupal does also require more of the user.

For any one thing you want to do with Drupal, there are probably 2-3 ways to accomplish it. You have to be willing to educate yourself so you can make the best choice.

That said, Drupal.org provides a lot of documentation, and the forums have a lot of great, helpful folks in them.

Ultimately, it comes down to what's important to you.

I have been using WordPress for some time and am comfortable with it. For blogging only, it is my platform of choice.

I am now tinkering with Drupal (again, I hacked around six months ago). My needs are such I need a CMS. For that, WordPress will not do.

One thing I am looking for is formatting features in the blog section of Drupal. Is there a module that will install an interface for basic formatting like italics, bold, blockquote, lists, etc.? This site will be used by children and it would be quite helpful to not have to hand-code the html.

I have a site Newswatch (www.newswatch.in) which is based on WordPress. It was made with NucleusCMS earlier. And then I had to migrate to WordPress because of its robust category structure and of course perfect search results. I have a created a few other magazine sites for a few friends.. all using WordPress.

It was a toss-up between WordPress and Drupal and I settled for the former. Primarily because of its more design flexibility, pagination possibilities, etc. Drupal I feel is more solid and has a steep learning curve too. But I don't think they are deterrents. For me, at least, WordPress suited more. It was not a question of which is better or worse. I like EZ Publish too. Wish I had the time to tinker around with it.

For that site, WordPress suited me. I have another site coming up which can only be made with Drupal. It is quite often which one suits the bill.
