Our maillog is now in the 50,000+ range. Question, would it be possible to put a simple email filter at the top? It would be super helpful to be able to narrow down the history for a single user.

If a patch is created, would it get merged or is this feature not something that would be accepted?

Maillog works with the concept of views integration.
If a patch is needed to filter for mail, please provide.

Generally you should be able to customize the view.
I still would like to have a default view patch that provides reasonable exposed filters out of the box.
So please make a suggestion.

A D7 patch is required first. If you provide both, i'm fine with adding the feature to D6 branch also.

In D7 you can add every field as a filter and expose it to get an email filter. I didn't test this for D6 but expect this to work out of the box as well.
