I have a fairly good knowledge of Drupal and trying to learn these web frameworks. Now it is not possible for me to work on everything and for my next project, I need to choose one of them. I just want to know what advantages one has over other ? and what things should I keep in mind to choose one over other ?

It depends on what you want to do. Drupal is not really a web framework, however you could use it as such. Drupal does alot out of the box, where as frameworks don't really. Do you need anything that drupal does out of the box? If not, don't use drupal.

I disagree. Drupal is a web app framework. You will see it listed as such on wikipedia.

Drupal just isn't a cookie cutter RoR clone.

Do you believe everything you read on Wikipedia? Drupal is not on par with RoR or other frameworks. Drupal is a bloated CMS (content management system.) With Drupal, there is already a system implemented for you that enables you to build on top of that system through an admin interface with out touching a line of actual code. RoR and other frameworks provides no such thing, you must implement your project by writing code from start to finish. It is like comparing apples to apple pie.

Drupal is part CMS and part framework. It's neither wordpress nor ROR but a hybrid. You can do a lot out of the box without touching code. There's also an extensive api for building web apps from scratch if desired. It's more like comparing strawberries and rhubarb to strawberry-rhubarb pie.

And bloated? Surely you jest. Drupal weighs in at a smidge over 1mb, and there's several optional modules included in that package which can simply be deleted if not used. Wordpress, much less functional, weighs in at 1.2mb, and joomla 1.5 is a whopping 5.7mb. RoR is 20-something mb, and django around 5mb i think.
