D7 Entities?

Does this work with Drupal7 entities? I am thinking of viewing some data in Views - which need not actually be nodes, but wish to copy one or more "records" into nodes.

Is this at all reasonable using node_clone? The fields should all be named the same, but the source would be an Entity, not a node.
