I have the latest version of both Drupal and Simplenews, and am using 1and1 servers.
When I publish a newsletter it doesn't work, but when I send it to my test email only it does. Last night I stripped out all the HTML (other then
tags) and tried sending it again 5-6 hours later and it worked (10 PM at night).
I have no idea why it worked because today it won't work no matter what I do. It is a new installation and I am a new user that doesn't know much about drupal. I've been pretty successful at building my website by reading posts here, and the documentation, but I just can't get past this issue.
Any clues?

What is the status of your newsletters in the sent issues page? are they all sent?
once an issue is sent, you cannot resend it again, you have to create a new newsletter issue (create content page).

When I begin to send a new newsletter I go to CREATE CONTENT >>>> NEWSLETTER ISSUE, then put in my subject and body of the message. I make sure that Send newsletter is selected and not one of the other two options. Under publishing options I only have "Published" selected and not the other 3. Then I hit submit.
Then under ADMINISTER >>>>> CONTENT MANAGEMENT >>>>> NEWSLETTERS the check box for published is checked, but the check box for sent has a blue clock and eventually times out.

The blue clock means that
The blue clock means that drupal is waiting for the cron to run and send the emails. Do you have it set up? Otherwise run it manually from the admin/logs/status page.
How many users are susbscribed to the newsletter? If not too many, you can go to ADMINISTER >>>>> CONTENT MANAGEMENT >>>>> NEWSLETTERS, click on settings, initial send time, set it to 5 sec for example. Depending on the amount of email to send, you might not have to use the cron. If the sending process takes longer than that, the rest of the emails will be sent by cron.
Similar Issue
I've imported a list of about 100 subscribers. They all show under "Subscriptions". I create a newsletter issue and I can send it to multiple "test" addresses, but it doesn't seem to send to the subscribers. The newsletter issue displays a "sent" checkmark. I've run cron, but the log entries don't show that it was sent to the subscribers. It only tells me when it is sent to the test addresses. Should I not be using cron to send the emails?
