Hello,
I want to upgrade media 7.1.RC3 Module with D7.12 to Media 7.2.dev. I get trouble.
- Cannot find it with the upgrade facility in the module manager.
- i cannot uninstall it
- i try the manual procedure (http://drupal.org/node/672472) with this result :

The change from version 1 to version 2 is not an update, it's an upgrade. 7.2 is a new version and you can't use the method in the link you posted.
I suggest you ask this question in the module issue queue. see http://drupal.org/project/issues/media?status=All&categories=All
