The spacing looks ugly if there is a long slogan.

I think it might look better and be easier to modify in css if the search box came after (lower than) the slogan. Otherwise, it is hard to find good-looking spacing between the site name and slogan while making room for the search box.

In general it's helpful to post screenshots of themeing issues to make the issue faster to understand (and work on a fix).

Sorry, but I already added CSS to take care of this for my site. It should be easy to replicate by adding a slogan that is long enough to get in the way.

You can see what it looks like to move the search box lower here
