ryo commentedI was able to register your site, so it seems the issue was solved on your site.
Is it OK to close this issue to avoid confusing people?
spooky69 commentedSorry about that. It only works because I have disabled login toboggan. I am unclear as to whether these modules are now able to co-exist.
ryo commentedOK. So let's leave this issue open for a while.
Someone who has the same experience with "Role assign" and "login toboggan" may post report.
I have no experience with login tobogan.

daddison commentedFWIW, I have logintoboggan and roleassign on a 4.7.x installation and the combination does not affect the ability of new users to register. But I do not let new users choose their own roles, and the two modules might not play nice on Drupal 5.

Christefano-oldaccount commentedspooky69, it would be good to know how LoginToboggan is configured on your site. What comes to mind for me is that it may be conflicting with RoleAssign if you are using LoginToboggan to assign a temporary role before the user validates his or her email address.
I'm changing the name of this issue to something less scary.
Daryljames commentedI tried using both modules together and the outcome was bad...
I wanted my users to be able to choose from 2 roles at registration...
The conflict i believe is in the logintoboggan module...
No matter what setting I chose no roles are being assigned
