It is not currently possible to use the theme hooks because the module doesn't use hook_theme correctly.

For example, theme_panel_link will always use the module version, even if a theme version of the function exists.

I've attached a patch to fix links (patched against version 6.x-1.2), and will patch the rest when I get time.
