It would be great to add a subscription option to taxonomy terms so that a user could get notified whenever a new article is added tagged with a specific word they are interested in. This would help gardeners watch the site for new content or edited content related so specific subjects.

IMO you just need to enable Taxonomy Notifications module (@ admin/build/modules), which is disabled by default.

Thanks for that information. That does help some and I was not aware of that.

I think the thing this module is still missing, or at least can't figure out how to do it, is how to add this "Subscribe to" option in the blue hover-over menu on a node.

The only way I see how to add a subscription on a taxonomy term is via the user's notification settings page.

Hm,

strange, I can't see even option to subscribe to taxonomy term from user's notification settings page (user/1/notifications)?!

I enabled module, even cleared all cache..

Yea I missed it too, but you have to give the roles permissions for it.

I think that this type of documentation could be very much improved for what needs to be done when enabling certain modules as part of the Commons installation, or what is needed for doing certain activities.

(eg. How to add a file attachment field to a wiki, and the steps needed to add that field.) As this is a "out of the box" social environment, that type of task, something that you may not include by default in the distro but something that is not unheard of a may be typical for many users) should be documented somewhere.

at /admin/user/permissions
under
notifications_tags module
on the
subscribe to taxonomy terms

check the box for the role you want, probably authenticated user.

Hm, IMO for UID 1 everything should work without messing with permissions..

Please, can you acknowledge that you can add subscription to taxonomy terms from the user's notification settings page?

I created another user which is authenticated and granted subscribe to taxonomy terms permission to authenticated user role..but it's not showing yet..

I also am not able to subscribe to only one type of content (e.g. Discussion) in group - something that should be working (like @ g.d.o)? But this is probably for some another issue..

I changed description of issue to match correctly - please change it if you would like to include official out of the box support for subscribing to taxonomy terms - I assume this is disabled by default with good reason..

OK, please ignore all from comment #6, I found solution to all problems @ Notification admin pages, concretely @

  1. admin/messaging/notifications/ui
  2. admin/messaging/notifications/content

In second UI I also checked content types that can be used to subscribe in groups. :)

Options at above mentioned admin pages should solve your initial request.

Cheers.

Excellent. Thanks. Another reason why Commons needs better documentation, especially when new features are added.

Have someone try to do this with Flag 3.0?
