Wsyiwyg Fields
Wysiwyg ImageField is currently being re-written as Wysiwyg Fields, which will allow for any CCK field to be used inside the Wysiwyg.

Any roadmap/ timeline for rewrite module? Also dev release for testing would be fine ;)

Any progress on this? There seems to be so many solutions to nice (read: user friendly) handling of inserting images via wysiwyg, but none of them are quite there.

For example I looked at the media module but it wants to save image files directly to a folder rather than via an image field, which is a requirement for the project I'm currently working on.

Wysiwyg Fields is far more stable than this module and you should not be using this module anymore. I will change the message at some point.

I still have plans for this module, but as a sub-module of Wysiwyg Fields.

P.s., you can also use the Media module in conjunction with the Wysiwyg Fields module, getting the best of both worlds, will use the library, but the files will be attached to a field that is inserted via the Wysiwyg Field.
