Is there a way to have email sent to a user when someone makes a new comment on a node that a user has "subscribed" to?
Like, I want to have a checkbox below form that says "Notify me by email on new comments".
k.
Comments
Subscriptions or Comment Notify
Look at the Subscriptions module, or perhaps the Comment Notify module.
I have users as usernodes,
I have users as usernodes, and I would like to automatically send them notification email when someone writes a comment on their usernode. Simple as that.
maybe actions module,... haven't looked at it.
Guestbook
That sounds like a guestbook to me. Check out the guestbook module, which can send an email to a user when entries are added to his or her guestbook. You can embed the guestbook into the user's profile or usernode as discussed at http://drupal.org/node/34484
Here's a handbook page on customizing user profiles:

I do appreciate your help,
I do appreciate your help, but I don't think guestbook module will work for me.
As I said, I have users as regular nodes (usernodes). I am not using drupal user profiles at all (just basic account settings). When somebody posts a comment to a usernode, it becomes a regular comment (just like there's a comment for a story, this is a comment for usernode - but it just "feels like" guestbook entry to a user profile, or comment, or call it whatever. It is basically the same as myspace.
