My site, www.buildersgenie.com, has several categories where there are several terms that mean the same thing, such as HVAC or Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning. Instead of having several vocabulary terms for each and assigning a node to all the categories it applies to, I'd rather use the synonym function... but I cannot get it to work.

I have the term HVAC and in the synonym field I have Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning, but the nodes only come up when I search for HVAC.

How can I get the search to work with synonyms?

My understanding is that synonyms aren't actually used but are there for modules to make use of.

I've read that too, but I am wondering if anyone has seen a module or can help with a module to do this. I've tried the instructions on this link: http://drupal.org/node/83027 including adding the .info file. All it does is break the site.

I've read a lot of posts about this issue, but no solutions. Is there a solution? Can someone make http://drupal.org/node/83027 work for 5.x?
