Many seem to struggle with installing TinyMCE. The only install instructions that seemed to work are at http://discover-doug.com/2007/01/25/installing-tinymce-with-drupal/. These instructions give specifics while the "official" install instructions leave at lot to interpretation.
Example: "1. Place the entire tineymce directory into your Drupal modules/ directory." Does this mean into /modules or into /sites/all/modules? According to the official docs, I thought the former - and it didn't work.
Also, it would be useful to update http://drupal.org/project/tinymce and include a link to the Drupal tinymce module as well as to the tinymce code - one place to download both.
Better install instructions would reduce support costs and increase the number of people using the product.
Thanks!
Mike

kreynen commentedLOL... Obviously you are not subscribed to the Drupal developer list!
I started a VERY ACTIVE debate about the current policy of no 3rd party code in Drupal's CVS policy this week. Nedjo had asked about making a change to the policy for JQuery plugins as well, but key people maintaining Drupal's CVS aren't budging.
I've been working with a customized version of TinyMCE for several months that I think works MUCH BETTER than the default download available from Moxiecode.
The question is, how do I share that code?
The current answer is for many reasons is not with Drupal's CVS. Some of the reasons for this may be legit, but one that isn't that kept coming up was security. How is distributing TinyMCE outside of Drupal.org making Drupal more secure? It doesn't, but that's what we have to do to have a 1 step install with a version of TinyMCE customize/optimized for Drupal. I'm not sure exactly how/where we are going to do that, but I'll discuss that with everyone involved in the TinyMCE development group before moving forward.
I wish there was a status settings for I couldn't agree more! If you are interested in helping with TinyMCE, please join the development group.

ricmadeira commentedI just installed tinymce.module following the instructions (the install.txt that comes with the module) and they seem to work just fine.
Also, I installed it by placeing the module in the regular /modules/ directory, as per the instructions, and I works just fine that way.
Are you using a multi-site installation?

ray007 commentedWith the devel-module active it's almost impossible to install and configure tinymce, since there are _lots_ of errors.
Just for example: why do I need a role with "access tinymce" permission? To test something out with admin that's absolutely unnecessary.
I'm almost tempted to categorize this as 'critical' ;-)

ricmadeira commentedI don't get what you're saying, Ray.
What's the problem with the "access tinymce" permission? Without this permission activated users can't use Tinymce, so you have to active it if you want people to use the editor.
Plus if there are bugs/errors... what's that got to do with the install instructions?

ray007 commentedThe intuitive way (for me) to install tinymce was to activate the module and then go to the tinymce settings page.
On this page I couldn't create a profile because no role had "access tinymce" permission, but if I wanted to just use it with admin for a while no role needs "access tinymce" permission. Giving permission to other roles is usually something I do later.
And since I had the devel-module active, the necessary hints were some pages down below some errors (which probably don't show up without the devel module).
