Hello,
I am new to Drupal, and I have been looking all over for the ranking of modules and themes based on popularity/downloads. Where do I find this list? Doresn't Drupal.org track the number of downloads or visits to each module and theme?
Thanks

What you seek is a feature that is being worked on. At this point only the DO devs and webmaster know the numbers you are looking for, though they have been posted in the forum and Groups on occasion.
Any update on this
Any update on this topic?
I'm also new to Drupal, having chosen it over Joomla, but I'd like to have an idea of which modules to look into for inclusion on my website. I'm more than willing to listen to others advice or suggestions as which modules are "must haves" to turn a typical Drupal installation into a much more pleasing site. Some modules have enough banter about them (CCK, Views) that they stand out from the crowd, but others are so buried in the enormous list of modules that it would take me a year to go through all of them.
Surely DO can implement a voting system of some sort? Not to compare to Joomla, but one of the reasons I was first attracted to that particular CMS was Joomla.org's easy to navigate module listings with rankings and stats. It greatly eases the newbie into the design process knowing what modules have worked for others.
edit: added this link (sadly its a little old)

If anyone has additional links of this sort please by all means post them! Thank you.
Rate modules on drupalmodules.com
I think more of this is done on Drupalmodules.com. Yep, there's far too many modules with far too much overlap of functionality. Too much choice.

There is also http://drupal.org/project/usage which shows the most popular modules based on installations pinging back via update status notifications.
