During the big entity build/view mode cleanup which happend between UNSTABLE-9 and ALPHA-1, the view mode for terms when used within a term reference field was left with a "@todo" in yched's patch at http://drupal.org/node/664544#comment-2410804 and remained so ever since.

This should be fixed, and the attached patch offers a way to do so.
